Charges against a former Walkerton mortgage broker will go to trial.
Dan MacDonald faces 72 counts including fraud over $5,000, uttering a forged
document and theft.
They're all related to a mortgage and investment business he ran from 1991
to 2004.
MacDonald has chosen judge and jury to hear the case, but waived what was to
be a four-day preliminary hearing. Defence told the court it was prepared to
consent to committal to trial.
Crown Jill Macintyre agreed to waive most of the preliminary, but asked to
call three witnesses over two days last week. There is a ban on publication
of their evidence
South Bruce OPP and the anti-rackets unit spent five years investigating
MacDonald's business.
A date for the trial was scheduled to be set at assignment court in Owen
Sound this week.
